Payments and Checkout
Last updated 13 September 2026
We bill your subscription through Stripe. Your own sales run through your own gateway: you are merchant of record, the funds are yours, and the disputes are yours. We never touch that money.
Two separate money flows
There are two, and mixing them up causes most of the confusion. The first is what you pay us for Oddyssey, billed through Stripe. The second is what your buyers pay you through a checkout you build in Oddyssey, processed by a gateway you connect. We are never in the second flow's money path.
Your Oddyssey subscription
- Commercer LLC is the merchant of record for your Oddyssey subscription.
- Billing runs on Stripe. Card data goes to Stripe directly; we store only the brand, last four digits and expiry for display.
- Charges recur automatically at the start of each period until you cancel. Invoices and receipts are available in your account.
- Taxes are added where required. Failed payments are retried and may lead to suspension.
- Cancellation and refunds are covered in the Terms of Service and the Refund Policy.
Checkout with your own gateway
- You connect your own payment gateway or processor account. You are the merchant of record for every sale you make through it.
- Funds settle from your gateway to your bank account. We never hold, route, escrow or take a cut of your customers' payments.
- We do not act as a payment facilitator, money transmitter or payment processor, and nothing in the product should be read as us providing payment services.
- Your agreement with your gateway and acquirer governs pricing, reserves, settlement timing and account standing. If they freeze or close your account, that is between you and them.
Card data and PCI scope
Checkout collects card details through your gateway's hosted fields or hosted page, so card numbers never touch Oddyssey servers. That keeps your checkout in the lightest PCI self-assessment category your gateway allows. You are still responsible for completing the self-assessment your acquirer requires, and for not pasting card data anywhere in the workspace.
Credentials
Gateway API keys and OAuth tokens are stored encrypted in a vault and used only to carry out actions you configured. Use restricted keys with the narrowest permissions your gateway offers. Revoke access from your gateway dashboard at any time; the connection stops working immediately.
Disputes, chargebacks and refunds on your sales
Every dispute, refund and chargeback on your sales is yours to handle, in your gateway, under your acquirer's rules and timelines. We may surface dispute and refund data in the workspace so your experiment readouts are net of them, but we do not respond to disputes, submit evidence or hold liability for them.
Descriptors and buyer disclosure
Your checkout must show your business name, a clear price including recurring terms, delivery expectations, and your own refund and contact details before the buyer pays. Your billing descriptor must be recognizable. Unclear descriptors and hidden rebill terms are the leading cause of disputes and are a breach of the Acceptable Use Policy.
Subscription and rebill offers
If you sell a trial, continuity or subscription offer, disclose the rebill amount, the date of the first rebill and how to cancel, in plain language, on the page where the buyer commits. Send a receipt and honour cancellations promptly. Many card-scheme and consumer rules require this specifically and we will enforce it.
Restricted categories
Your gateway decides what it will process for you. We will not help configure a checkout for anything prohibited by the Acceptable Use Policy or by the connected gateway's own rules.
Contact
Billing questions about your Oddyssey subscription go to support@tryoddyssey.com. Questions about a payment one of your buyers made go to you, not us, and your checkout should say so.
